Sankhya-Yoga & Karma-Yoga, Or The Philosophy & Science of Religion

Sankhya-Yoga and Karma-Yoga, authored by Swami Ātmānanda, emerges from the early twentieth-century movement of Vedantic dissemination in the West. It was written to bridge the gap between traditional Indian philosophical systems—specifically the analytical dualism of Sankhya and the selfless action of Karma-Yoga—and the inquisitive, rationalist spirit of Western religious seekers.

The text reflects the editorial sensibilities of its time, presenting complex metaphysical concepts through the structured, lecture-based format common to missionary-intellectuals of the era. The work was intended to serve as a foundational guide for practitioners, aiming to simplify the rigorous ascetic frameworks of ancient Sanskrit literature into an accessible, practical manual for spiritual discipline and ethical conduct.
