Where it came from
Senyuu. originated as a comedic web manga created by Haruhara Robinson, which gained significant traction online before being serialized in Jump Square, a monthly shōnen manga magazine published by Shueisha. The series serves as a parody of traditional fantasy role-playing game tropes, focusing on the absurd and often cynical dynamic between a legendary hero and the demon king's subordinate.
The transition from web comic to the polished format of Jump Square allowed for more detailed art and a structured episodic narrative. Robinson’s design aesthetic relies on minimalist character expressions contrasted with sudden, chaotic shifts in tone, a style that was well-received by readers looking for a deconstruction of the 'quest' narrative. The work's success in the magazine eventually paved the way for a notable anime adaptation.
