Shijin V Liver

The Shijin V Liver series, illustrated by the artist known as Maki, emerged from the intersection of modern digital character design and traditional East Asian mythological motifs. The project reimagines the four mythological creatures—the Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise—as anthropomorphic characters within a stylized, contemporary aesthetic. The work was created to serve as a high-quality visual representation of these classic symbols for fans of character-driven illustration, emphasizing dynamic poses and sharp, modern color palettes.

Maki’s design philosophy for the collection centers on fusing traditional lore with a sleek, vibrant visual language that characterizes the contemporary illustration scene. By focusing on detailed costume elements and expressive character portraits, Maki sought to bridge the gap between historical allegory and modern fandom culture. The series was met with appreciation in illustration circles for its clean lines and imaginative integration of ancient iconography, cementing Maki's reputation for thematic consistency and technical precision.
