Shinsotsu de Haitta Kaisha no Joushi ga Omotteita no to Chigau

Shinsotsu de Haitta Kaisha no Joushi ga Omotteita no to Chigau, authored by Chikuwa, originated as a web manga series that captures the nuances of workplace dynamics in modern Japan. It was conceived to explore the humorous and often heartwarming disconnect between the expectations of a new employee and the reality of working under a supervisor whose outward demeanor masks a more complex, supportive personality. The series found its initial audience through digital platforms, gaining traction for its relatable character interactions and the grounded, slice-of-life approach to office culture.

The character design and illustrative style reflect the contemporary shojo-adjacent aesthetic common in social media-driven manga, focusing on expressive facial reactions and intimate situational comedy. Chikuwa opted for a clean, minimalist line work that keeps the focus on the internal monologues and shifting professional relationships. Upon its collection into physical volumes, the series was well-received by readers who appreciated its gentle subversion of rigid hierarchical stereotypes, leading to its status as a popular representative of the workplace comedy genre.
