Where it came from
The Shinsouban edition of the WORST Side Story serves as a premium re-release of the side tales connected to Hiroshi Takahashi’s seminal delinquent manga series, WORST. These volumes were designed to provide a more durable and aesthetically refined reading experience for long-time fans, consolidating disparate short stories and supplementary material that expanded the lore of the Suzuran All-Boys High School universe. The shift to a Shinsouban format—typically characterized by higher-quality paper, new cover art, and a slightly larger trim size—reflects the enduring cultural significance of Takahashi’s gritty, character-driven storytelling within the Japanese youth subculture genre.
Hiroshi Takahashi, renowned for his distinctively rugged art style and his ability to humanize the archetypal delinquent character, oversaw the presentation of this collection to ensure it remained faithful to the series' thematic roots of brotherhood and rivalry. The design leans into the raw, ink-heavy aesthetic that defined the original run, emphasizing the kinetic energy of the brawls and the nuanced facial expressions of the protagonists. Upon release, this edition was well-received by the dedicated community of collectors who valued the enhanced print quality as a definitive way to preserve and archive these essential chapters of the WORST saga.
