Where it came from
Soft Metal Vampire was serialized in Afternoon magazine beginning in 2012, representing a pivot in Hiroki Endou's body of work following the conclusion of his long-running science fiction epic, Eden: It's an Endless World!. This series centers on a vampire named Cain who possesses supernatural abilities stemming from a unique biological composition, placing the narrative firmly within the genre of dark fantasy and seinen manga.
Endou's design approach for the series focuses on a visceral, high-contrast aesthetic that emphasizes the grotesque elements of his protagonist's physiology. The work explores themes of power, alienation, and the intersection of humanity with monstrous biology, garnering attention for its intricate linework and the author's departure from the sprawling geopolitical narrative structures that defined his earlier career.
