Sora no Woto, also known as Sound of the Sky, originated as an original anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Aniplex, which subsequently inspired a manga adaptation serialized in Dengeki Daioh. The narrative is set in a post-apocalyptic world centered on the Helvetia region, where a group of young women serve in a military unit tasked with preserving culture and music. The project was conceived as the inaugural entry in the Anime no Chikara initiative, an ambitious collaboration designed to foster original anime properties that diverged from typical source material trends of the era.

The series is noted for its distinctive visual aesthetic, which draws heavy inspiration from the real-world town of Cuenca, Spain. The production team sought to create a contemplative, atmospheric experience that balanced lighthearted slice-of-life elements with deeper themes of war, history, and the emotional resonance of music.
