Souten no Ken

Souten no Ken, also known as Fist of the Blue Sky, serves as a prequel to the legendary manga series Fist of the North Star. Created by Tetsuo Hara and published beginning in 2001, the series shifts the setting to 1930s Shanghai. It follows Kenshiro Kasumi, the 62nd successor of the Hokuto Shinken martial art, as he navigates the complex underworld of pre-war China, providing a deeper look into the lineage of the protagonist from the original series.

The design of the series leans into the gritty, noir-inspired aesthetic of the era, blending Hara's signature hyper-muscular character designs with detailed historical settings. It was conceived to expand the mythology of the Hokuto Shinken style, placing a more sophisticated, chain-smoking protagonist against the backdrop of international conflict and organized crime.
