Where it came from
The SSSS.GRIDMAN Comic Anthology was published by Ichijinsha as a companion to the 2018 anime series SSSS.GRIDMAN, which itself serves as a modern revival of the 1993 tokusatsu show Denkou Choujin Gridman. The anthology was created to capture the enthusiastic community response to the series, offering a collection of short-form manga vignettes that explore the mundane, humorous, and slice-of-life aspects of the show's core cast outside of their high-stakes battles.
Niina Ryou contributed to this volume alongside a collaborative group of various artists who were commissioned to reimagine the show's characters. The aesthetic of the anthology reflects the vibrant, late-2010s digital art style prevalent in contemporary anime magazines. It was received by fans as a lighthearted expansion of the franchise's world-building, functioning as a decorative item for collectors looking to celebrate the series' specific tone and character dynamics.
