Stenographischer Bericht über die Verhandlungen der Deutschen Constituirenden Nationalversammlung zu Frankfurt am Main

The Stenographischer Bericht über die Verhandlungen der Deutschen Constituirenden Nationalversammlung zu Frankfurt am Main serves as the official, verbatim record of the proceedings of the Frankfurt Parliament, which convened in St. Paul's Church between 1848 and 1849. This assembly represented the first freely elected parliament for all of Germany, tasked with drafting a constitution to unify the German states into a single nation-state following the March Revolution. The volumes were compiled by the Redactions-Commission to ensure an accurate historical archive of the intense debates surrounding fundamental rights and the structure of a proposed German Empire.

The publication was designed as a monumental reference work, reflecting the formal parliamentary style of the mid-19th century. Its dense, meticulously documented pages captured the speeches and resolutions of liberal, democratic, and conservative delegates, providing a vital source for future constitutional law and historical research. While the assembly ultimately failed to secure the support of the Prussian monarchy and dissolved without implementing its constitution, these transcripts have remained a foundational text in German political history, marking a significant early effort toward parliamentary democracy.
