Where it came from
Suisei no Gargantia emerged as an original anime series in 2013, produced by Production I.G. The project was conceived as an ambitious science fiction narrative that blended post-apocalyptic themes with seafaring adventure. The story follows a young pilot from a militaristic space-faring society who finds himself stranded on a water-covered Earth, forcing him to navigate a radically different culture and environment.
The character designs were crafted by the renowned artist Hanaharu Naruko, known for a distinct visual style that balances soft, expressive aesthetics with the hard-edged mechanics of the mecha elements. The series was met with positive critical reception for its world-building and philosophical inquiries into human adaptation, with the name Okeanosu serving as the collective creative credit for the series' original work and production team.
