Where it came from
Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari, authored by the mangaka Jinushi, began its serialization in 2022. The series emerged within the slice-of-life genre, focusing on the quiet, mundane interactions between a middle-aged office worker and a convenience store clerk who share a secret spot behind a shop to smoke. Its inception reflects a trend in contemporary manga toward smaller, character-driven narratives that emphasize atmosphere and subtle interpersonal dynamics over high-stakes action.
The aesthetic of the series is characterized by its grounded, intimate art style, which serves the narrative's slow-burn pace. Jinushi deliberately leans into the contrast between the stress of corporate life and the fleeting moments of respite found in the characters' shared habit. Upon its release, the manga was well-received by readers for its understated humor and the authentic chemistry between its leads, often praised for its ability to find beauty in the routine aspects of daily life.
