Szematyzm Królestwa Galicyi i Lodomeryi z Wielkiem Ksiestwem Krakowskiem: na rok ...

The Szematyzm Królestwa Galicyi i Lodomeryi was an annual administrative directory published in Lwów, serving as the official handbook for the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. These volumes were commissioned by the provincial government to provide a comprehensive record of civil servants, ecclesiastical officials, judicial structures, and educational institutions within the crown land. They were essential tools for state bureaucracy, ensuring that information regarding the complex, multi-ethnic administrative apparatus of the region remained standardized and accessible to authorities.

The design of these volumes reflects the formal, utilitarian aesthetic of 19th-century Central European state publications. Produced under the oversight of the provincial administration, the volumes were intended to be strictly functional, characterized by structured lists and dense typography that prioritized clarity for state use. While not the work of a single artistic designer, the series evolved through the efforts of the Lwów-based state printing offices, which maintained consistency in format and presentation as the region underwent various social and political shifts leading up to the dissolution of the empire.
