Tales of Vesperia

Tales of Vesperia was released in 2008 as the tenth core entry in the long-running Tales series, developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment to coincide with the franchise's tenth anniversary. It was conceived as a high-definition evolution for the series, featuring a distinct cel-shaded art style that mimicked hand-drawn animation, a significant departure from the previous entries. The game was produced to bridge the gap between traditional Japanese role-playing game mechanics and a more modern, fluid combat experience, marking the first time the series utilized a real-time battle system with such expansive character customization.

The character designs were overseen by veteran artist Kousuke Fujishima, whose work brought a mature aesthetic to the game's protagonists, most notably the anti-hero Yuri Lowell.
