Tende Freeze!

Tende Freeze! was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday between 1992 and 1994, emerging during a period when the magazine was heavily invested in lighthearted, character-driven comedy series. Written and illustrated by the mangaka known as Isutoshi, the series focuses on a young man who finds his daily life disrupted by his interactions with the protagonist, a girl with a penchant for impulsive and eccentric behavior. The narrative is defined by its slapstick humor and the energetic, rounded art style characteristic of early 90s gag manga.

Isutoshi’s design approach for the series prioritized dynamic, expressive character acting to match the rapid-fire comedic timing of the scripts. Upon its release, Tende Freeze! earned a modest but dedicated following for its subversive take on the high school romantic comedy tropes common at the time. While it did not reach the global cultural ubiquity of the era's biggest hits, it is remembered by enthusiasts as a distinct example of the quirky, character-focused storytelling that defined that specific corner of the Shonen Sunday catalog.
