Tetsujin 28-Gou: Koutei no Monshou

Tetsujin 28-Gou: Koutei no Monshou is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuichi Hasegawa, published in the early 2000s. It serves as a reimagining of Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s foundational 1956 creation, Tetsujin 28-Gou, which is widely recognized as the progenitor of the giant robot genre in Japanese media. This volume continues the long-standing tradition of reinterpreting the classic story of the remote-controlled iron titan for new generations of readers.

Hasegawa is known for his deep respect for classic science fiction tropes, and in this work, he integrates complex mechanical design with the retro-futuristic aesthetic characteristic of the original series. The narrative focuses on the moral and technical challenges posed by the titular robot, maintaining the tension between human control and autonomous technology. Upon its release, the series was received by fans of the genre as a thoughtful homage that successfully updated the pacing and stakes of the original 1950s work while honoring its historical legacy.
