Where it came from
The Art of Fighting Xtra Story: Karman to Order is a manga volume authored by Amajishi Etsuya, released within the context of the expanded media universe surrounding SNK's classic fighting game franchise, Art of Fighting. As part of a wave of promotional and narrative-focused adaptations released during the mid-1990s, the work was intended to deepen the lore of the series' secondary characters, specifically focusing on the enforcer character Karman Cole.
Amajishi Etsuya’s approach to the material leaned heavily into the established aesthetic of the arcade fighting titles, emphasizing kinetic action sequences and character-driven drama. While these spin-off volumes were primarily marketed toward existing fans of the Neo Geo gaming community, they served as a testament to the era's cross-media strategy, where gaming intellectual properties were frequently translated into print to sustain engagement between game sequels.
