The Bertrams: A Novel Volume 2 - Scholar's Choice Edition

The Bertrams was originally published in 1859 during a period when Anthony Trollope was finding his footing as a prolific Victorian novelist. The story explores the themes of ambition and the consequences of romantic choices, centered on the life of George Bertram and his struggles with social and personal expectations. Trollope famously regarded the novel as one of his least successful efforts, reflecting on it with critical distance in his later years.

The Scholar's Choice edition is a modern reprint produced through print-on-demand services, designed to make historical public domain texts accessible to contemporary readers and researchers. These editions are typically generated by scanning original archival copies, preserving the typographical character of the era while ensuring the survival of the text in a durable, modern format. They are favored by libraries and collectors who prioritize content availability over the aesthetic of original Victorian-era bindings.
