Where it came from
The Celestial Zone is a prominent manhua series created by Singaporean artist Wee Tian Beng, first serialized in the 1990s. The work emerged during a period of rising interest in pan-Asian comic styles, blending traditional Chinese mythological motifs with modern fantasy aesthetics. It reflects the author's attempt to bridge regional storytelling traditions with the dynamic panel layouts characteristic of the contemporary manga industry.
The design of the series is noted for its intricate, ornate character illustrations and fluid line work, which became the hallmark of Wee Tian Beng's style. The narrative is heavily influenced by Eastern philosophical themes and epic martial arts legends. Upon its release, it gained significant recognition within the Southeast Asian publishing scene, helping to establish a distinct voice for Singaporean creators in the global comic market.
