Where it came from
The Jelly series, authored by the artist known as Afterglow, emerged during a period of heightened interest in atmospheric, slice-of-life manga that prioritized mood and visual aesthetic over complex plot mechanics. This specific volume serves as a central entry in the collection, designed to capture the ephemeral and slightly surreal quality of its titular subject. The series gained a reputation among readers for its minimalist narrative approach, often utilizing wide, wordless panels to emphasize the texture and softness of the art style.
The design of the volume reflects a deliberate choice to mirror the fluid nature of the content. Afterglow opted for a muted color palette and soft-edged line work, aiming to provide a tactile reading experience that resonated with the burgeoning trend of 'healing' manga. Upon its release, the work was received as a quiet, contemplative piece of contemporary storytelling, praised by critics for its unique visual rhythm and the restraint shown in its character development.
