The Journal of the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers, Iron Ship Builders, and Helpers of America

The Journal of the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers, Iron Ship Builders, and Helpers of America served as the official monthly organ for one of the most prominent labor organizations during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Established to foster communication among workers in heavy industrial trades, the publication provided members with updates on labor legislation, technical advancements in boiler and shipbuilding, and reports on union activities across North America. It acted as a vital intellectual bridge for skilled tradespeople during the rapid industrialization of the United States.

The editorial direction of the journal prioritized the solidification of labor identity and the standardization of trade practices. While specific graphic contributors were often anonymous union officials or editors, the visual and textual design remained functional and didactic, emphasizing the importance of craft solidarity. The publication is historically significant for its detailed accounts of the labor movement's struggles and achievements, offering researchers a primary record of the challenges faced by industrial workers during this era of American economic growth.
