The Legend of Luoxiaohei

The Legend of Luoxiaohei originated as a flash animation series created by the Chinese animator MTJJ (Zhang Ping) in 2011. Initially conceived as a web project, the series follows a stray black cat named Luo Xiaohei who possesses extraordinary abilities. The character design is intentionally minimalist and expressive, utilizing a clean, distinct aesthetic that prioritizes fluid character movement and whimsical storytelling over complex visual rendering.

The physical volumes and graphic adaptations of the series were developed to supplement the growing lore of the animation, which eventually expanded into a highly successful feature-length film. The design of the printed material remains faithful to MTJJ’s original vision, maintaining the simple, appealing character shapes while translating the cinematic framing into a sequential art format. The series has been widely praised in the Chinese animation industry for its unique charm and is credited with fostering a dedicated fan base that grew organically from its digital roots.
