The Life and Exploits of Alexander the Great: Being a Series of Ethiopic Texts Edited from Manuscripts in the British Museum and the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, with an English Translation and Notes

Commissioned and edited by Sir Ernest Alfred Wallis Budge, then Keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum, this two-volume work was published in 1896. The project sought to make the obscure Ethiopic tradition of the Alexander Romance accessible to a scholarly audience by transcribing and translating various manuscripts held by the British Museum and the Bibliothèque Nationale. It reflects the late 19th-century academic drive to document non-Western iterations of classical mythological figures.

Budge provided both the Ethiopic texts and a detailed English translation, accompanied by an extensive introduction exploring the evolution of the Alexander legends across different cultures.
