The man with the red hair (cont.) Nils Jensen. The princess Paolini. Count Waldemar

William Edward Norris was a prolific late-Victorian novelist known for his sharp observations of social manners and the landed gentry. This specific volume collects several of his shorter works, which were originally serialized in periodicals—a common practice for writers of his era who aimed to reach a broad audience before consolidating their tales into cohesive book form.

The design of this edition reflects the typical craftsmanship of late 19th-century publishing, where volumes were intended to be both accessible and durable for home libraries. Norris’s prose was well-received by his contemporaries for its steady, ironic wit and refined dialogue, positioning him as a significant, if understated, voice in the transition between the Victorian and Edwardian literary landscapes.
