Where it came from
The Party of Stars, written by Noboru Rokuda, emerged during a period of prolific experimentation in late 20th-century manga. Rokuda, best known for his work on high-octane racing series like Dash Kappei and F-One, shifted his focus here toward more intimate, character-driven storytelling. The volume serves as a representative example of his transition away from pure sports-action narratives toward more contemplative, slice-of-life themes that prioritize emotional resonance over competitive stakes.
The design and artistic execution reflect Rokuda's characteristic style, marked by dynamic character proportions and expressive line work that evolved significantly throughout his career. Within the broader context of his bibliography, this work is often cited by collectors as a departure from his mainstream commercial hits, offering a window into the thematic versatility he maintained while working under the rigors of the weekly and monthly serialization systems in Japan.
