The Promised Neverland, Vol. 4: I Want to Live

The Promised Neverland, Vol. 4: I Want to Live, is part of the suspense-thriller manga series written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu. First serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016, the series was designed to subvert traditional shonen tropes by focusing on psychological strategy and escape mechanics within an unsettling, high-stakes environment. This specific volume, published in English by VIZ Media, captures a critical turning point as the protagonists intensify their plans to flee the orphanage, reflecting the series' recurring themes of desperation and intellectual combat.

The artistic direction by Posuka Demizu is noted for its juxtaposition of whimsical character designs with dark, atmospheric backgrounds that heighten the sense of dread. The reception of this volume was largely positive, as it solidified the series' reputation for intricate pacing and cliffhangers. Its popularity among readers stems from the chemistry between the primary trio, whose efforts to outmaneuver their caretakers are central to the visual and narrative tension established throughout the collection.
