The Revised Prayer Book. For the Use of the Congregation Assembled at St. George's Hall, Laugham Place. Compiled by

The Revised Prayer Book was compiled by Charles Voysey, a prominent figure in the Theistic Church movement of the late 19th century. Published in the late 1880s, the volume was designed for use by the congregation that gathered at St. George’s Hall in Langham Place, London. The work emerged from Voysey’s departure from the Church of England, reflecting his commitment to a form of religious practice that discarded traditional orthodox dogmas in favor of what he termed 'Theism,' a spiritual framework centered on the individual's relationship with a benevolent deity.

The design of the prayer book emphasizes simplicity and intellectual accessibility, consistent with Voysey's broader architectural and design ethos which prioritized functional integrity. The liturgy was structured to strip away the complexities of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, offering a pared-down, inclusive service that appealed to freethinkers and progressive Victorian intellectuals. While it served as the cornerstone for his specific congregation, it was received primarily as a radical theological challenge to established ecclesiastical authority and served as a manifesto for the wider Theistic movement.
