Where it came from
The Rise of The Eye of The Nine Realms originated as a serialized manga project under the creative direction of the studio known as Devil Frog Anime. Conceived during a period of rising interest in genre-bending dark fantasy, the work was designed to explore themes of cosmic mythology and mortal hubris. Its visual language relies on high-contrast ink work and intricate panel layouts, reflecting the studio's stylistic commitment to blending traditional manga aesthetics with atmospheric, otherworldly landscapes.
Upon its initial publication in collected volume form, the series was positioned as an ambitious entry in the fantasy market. The editorial focus aimed to ground fantastical elements in a gritty, character-driven narrative. While it maintains a niche following, the series has been noted by critics for its meticulous world-building and the distinct, experimental character designs provided by the Devil Frog collective, who sought to challenge the conventional proportions and layouts typical of mainstream shonen titles.
