The Satsaiya, a seminal collection of seven hundred dohas or couplets written by the 17th-century poet Bihari-lal, remains one of the most celebrated works in Braj Bhasha literature. This specific edition features the Lala-Candrika, a critical commentary composed by Lallu Lal Kavi, a prominent figure in the Fort William College circle in the early 19th century. Lallu Lal’s work was instrumental in documenting and preserving the intricate linguistic nuances of Bihari's poetry, which is revered for its sophisticated use of imagery and the devotional sentiment known as bhakti.

This edition was edited by Sir George Abraham Grierson, a distinguished colonial administrator and linguist who dedicated much of his career to the Linguistic Survey of India.
