The Ultraman

The Ultraman, illustrated by Mamoru Uchiyama, emerged during the late 1970s as part of the expansion of the Ultra Series franchise into manga format. Serialized in CoroCoro Comic, this work served to bring the cinematic scale of Tsuburaya Productions' tokusatsu legacy to a younger reading audience. Uchiyama, a long-time contributor to the series' printed adaptations, was tasked with interpreting the high-energy combat and morality of the television shows through the distinct visual language of serialized manga.

Uchiyama’s approach to The Ultraman prioritized kinetic paneling and character-driven narratives that emphasized the heavy responsibility borne by the protagonists.
