The Works of Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield: Lothair, v.2. The Letters of Benjamin Disraeli to his sister, 1832-1852

This volume is part of the 'Empire Edition' of the works of Benjamin Disraeli, a collection produced in the early 20th century to commemorate the legacy of the British Prime Minister and novelist. These editions were frequently issued by M. Walter Dunne, aimed at providing an authoritative and uniform library set for the Victorian and Edwardian reader. The selection of these specific texts reflects the publisher's intent to pair Disraeli's most famous society novel, Lothair, with his more personal, intimate correspondence, offering a comprehensive view of both his public literary persona and his private familial life.

The physical design of the series follows the high-quality standards typical of fine book production during the era, often featuring elegant gilt-tooled spines, deckle-edged paper, and frontispiece illustrations that lent an air of prestige to home libraries. By grouping his letters to his sister alongside his fiction, the editors sought to humanize the political titan, allowing readers to transition from the sophisticated satire of his novels to the unguarded observations he made to his most trusted confidante during his rise to power in the mid-19th century.
