The Works of William Makepeace Thackeray: The Memoirs of Mr. Charles Yellowplush. Men's Wives. Characte Sketches. Flore Et Zephyr

This volume is part of the extensive collected works of William Makepeace Thackeray, reflecting the Victorian era's literary tradition of gathering an author's disparate early essays, sketches, and serial fiction into uniform library editions. These specific texts represent Thackeray's formative years as a writer, showcasing his development of sharp, satirical social commentary and his early ventures into the persona-driven journalism that defined his early career before the widespread success of Vanity Fair.

The content reflects Thackeray's dual talents as both a writer and an illustrator, particularly in the inclusion of Flore et Zephyr, a series of satirical lithographs that mocked the ballet culture of 1830s Paris. By grouping these works together, publishers aimed to preserve the evolution of Thackeray’s distinctive voice—often cynical, humorous, and observant—allowing readers to trace his journey from an anonymous contributor to various periodicals to a major voice in nineteenth-century English literature.
