Thunder 3

Thunder 3 is a seinen manga series authored by Hiroya Oku, the creator widely recognized for his high-concept science fiction works such as Gantz and Inuyashiki. The series represents a stylistic departure for Oku, as it integrates hand-drawn characters into photorealistic, digitally rendered 3D environments. This visual approach highlights Oku's long-standing interest in the intersection of traditional manga art and advanced digital art techniques.

Serialized in Morning magazine starting in 2023, the narrative centers on a young boy named Hitonari who encounters otherworldly entities, blending Oku's signature brand of visceral sci-fi with themes of sudden, disruptive change. The design of the series is intentional in its uncanny aesthetic, aiming to create a sense of displacement by contrasting the illustrated characters with the hyper-realistic backgrounds, a creative choice that has generated significant discussion regarding the evolution of manga production standards.
