Where it came from
Today's Romantics Club is a representative work within the South Korean manhwa landscape of the early 2000s, a period marked by a surge in domestic romance-focused storytelling aimed at young adult readers. Written and illustrated by Uk-Soo, the series captures the shifting social dynamics and emotional complexities of dating and personal growth in contemporary Korea, reflecting the aesthetic trends and narrative preoccupations common to the popular rental-shop era of manhwa.
Uk-Soo’s approach to the series prioritizes intimate character interaction and a soft, expressive visual style that became a hallmark of the label. The work was generally well-received by readers for its relatable depiction of modern relationships, carving out a niche for the author as a voice for the romantic aspirations of a generation navigating the transition into adulthood.
