Where it came from
Toji no Tomo was produced as a promotional manga tie-in for the mobile game Toji no Miko: Kizamishi Issen no Tomoshibi, which expanded upon the universe established in the 2018 Studio Gokumi anime series. The manga served as a bridge between the core anime narrative and the mobile game’s original cast, utilizing a lighthearted, gag-oriented style to introduce the new characters and gameplay mechanics to an existing fan base.
The series features artwork by Mitsuru Sasaki, who employed a simplified, expressive aesthetic designed to make the tactical and combat-heavy world of the sword-wielding shrine maidens more accessible and humorous. The manga was received as a supplementary tool for player retention, often shared digitally to maintain engagement with the mobile app's ongoing updates and seasonal event cycles.
