Where it came from
Toripan is a popular Japanese four-panel comic strip series created by the manga artist Torino Nanko. First serialized in the Morning magazine starting in 2004, the series focuses on the daily observations of wild birds in the author's neighborhood. Nanko utilized a unique blend of humor and naturalist detail to document the behaviors and personalities of various species, effectively turning what could have been a standard diary comic into a beloved look at urban wildlife.
The design of the series is characterized by Nanko’s observational, sketch-like illustration style, which highlights the distinct traits of each bird while maintaining an approachable and lighthearted tone. Upon its publication in collected volumes, the series was well-received for its gentle pace and accurate ornithological content, garnering a devoted following among both manga enthusiasts and birdwatching hobbyists in Japan.
