Touch the Pes

Touch the Pes, written and illustrated by Yamada Eiji, emerged during the late 1990s as part of the niche landscape of seinen manga. It was produced during a period when experimental, often surrealist narratives were finding homes in alternative manga magazines, aiming to offer readers a departure from the high-fantasy or action-heavy tropes common to mainstream serialization of the era.

The design and artistic approach of the volume reflect Eiji’s characteristic preference for stark, atmospheric panels and unconventional character expressions. While the series did not achieve broad commercial ubiquity, it was received by critics as an intriguing, albeit idiosyncratic, contribution to the medium, noted primarily for its distinct visual rhythm and moody, abstract storytelling.
