Where it came from
The EAST VEGETA doujinshi is a creative crossover work by the Japanese artist Ryukosu, blending the established universes of the Touhou Project and the Dragon Ball franchise. Created within the vibrant subculture of independent manga production, this work typically appears at large-scale fan gatherings like Comiket, where artists explore surreal or humorous intersections between popular intellectual properties. The project represents a trend in doujin circles where characters from disparate series are reimagined in shared, often parodic, narrative frameworks.
The aesthetic of this volume draws heavily from Akira Toriyama’s iconic Dragon Ball character designs, specifically the Saiyan Prince Vegeta, transposed into the folklore-inspired setting of Gensokyo. As a self-published fan work, its reception is primarily localized within the Japanese doujin community. It serves as an example of fan-driven creative remixing, focusing on stylistic homage and character-driven situational comedy rather than adhering to formal canon.
