Trinity Blood

Trinity Blood originated as a series of light novels written by Sunao Yoshida and illustrated by Thores Shibamoto, first published in 2001. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity struggles to rebuild following a catastrophic war between humans and vampires, the narrative blends elements of gothic fantasy, science fiction, and political intrigue. The story centers on Abel Nightroad, a wandering priest who hides a secret, supernatural identity.

The visual identity of the series, defined by Thores Shibamoto’s ornate and baroque character designs, is widely considered a hallmark of the franchise. These illustrations emphasize heavy lace, complex ecclesiastical vestments, and dramatic, moody compositions that reflect the series' fusion of futuristic concepts with historical European aesthetic tropes. While Kentaro Yasui is credited with drafting the later volumes following Yoshida’s untimely passing, the series remains celebrated for establishing a distinct visual language that informed its subsequent adaptations into manga and anime.
