Where it came from
The Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri 4-koma manga was commissioned as part of the official promotional strategy for the 2015 television anime adaptation. Serialized on the anime's official website, these short-form strips served as lighthearted companion pieces to the main series, designed to expand audience engagement by presenting the characters in a comedic, situational context that contrasted with the more serious political and military themes of the primary narrative.
The illustrations were created by the artist Shiren Yukie, who was tasked with distilling the complex dynamics of the Gate universe into the concise, four-panel gag format typical of web-based promotional content. The work was generally well-received by the existing fan base for its playful interpretation of the series' core cast, successfully utilizing the traditional Japanese yonkoma structure to provide recurring fan service and character-driven humor throughout the anime's broadcast cycle.
