Uchi no Futeki na Gangster

Uchi no Futeki na Gangster, written and illustrated by Yukari Sakai, belongs to the landscape of late 20th-century Japanese manga. Published in the early 1990s, the work reflects the era's interest in blending domestic themes with heightened, trope-driven character studies. Sakai’s narrative approach utilizes the distinct visual language of shojo-influenced character design to subvert typical genre expectations, centering on the interpersonal dynamics of its titular 'gangster' protagonist.

The design of the volume adheres to the standard format for serialized manga releases of its time, emphasizing character-centric cover art that highlights Sakai’s expressive line work. Upon its release, the volume served as a modest entry in the broader market of independent or shorter-form manga series. It is regarded by collectors of the era as a representative piece of 1990s storytelling, notable for its self-contained narrative arc and the specific stylistic hallmarks of Sakai’s development as an artist.
