Uchikirare Mangaka, Doujin Ibento e Iku。

Uchikirare Mangaka, Doujin Ibento e Iku, written and illustrated by Sumi Hibito, serves as a poignant and often humorous reflection on the realities of the professional manga industry. The work emerged from the common authorial experience of having a series cancelled—or 'uchikirare'—and follows the creator as they transition from professional publication to the grassroots environment of doujinshi events. It captures the specific cultural intersection where commercial burnout meets the creative freedom found in independent self-publishing communities.

Sumi Hibito utilizes a self-deprecating and observant style to illustrate the complexities of the manga creator's lifestyle. The design focuses on personal narrative, emphasizing the contrast between the high-pressure editorial expectations of mainstream magazines and the communal, fan-driven energy of events like Comiket. Within the wider doujin culture, the book is respected for its honesty regarding the precarious nature of a mangaka's career and the persistence required to maintain one's passion for storytelling outside of traditional publishing frameworks.
