Where it came from
Uikurosu Bukubu Tama Gekijou represents a departure from the artist Ookawa Bukubu’s typical webcomic formats, specifically created to bridge the gap between his signature absurd humor and the aesthetic sensibilities of the Touhou Project doujin community. Published during a period where Bukub’s influence on internet culture was peaking, the volume serves as a curated collection of his serialized strips that often play with the chaotic, self-deprecating nature of fan-created content.
The design of the volume reflects the mangaka’s minimalist, squiggly art style—frequently referred to as 'kuso manga' or 'crap manga' by fans—which purposefully eschews technical polish in favor of raw comedic timing. By utilizing a stripped-back visual approach, Bukub places the focus squarely on the surreal dialogue and fourth-wall-breaking commentary that defined his early career, leading to a reception that celebrates his work as an ironic subversion of traditional character-driven media.
