The project emerged during a period of intense interest in bringing Western computer RPG aesthetics to the Japanese market, aiming to introduce the complex virtue-based moral systems of the Ultima series to a broader audience of manga readers who were accustomed to more linear storytelling.

The adaptation was illustrated by Yuko Tanaka, who utilized a distinct shōjo-influenced art style that diverged significantly from the Western pixel art of the original software.
