Where it came from
Until the Full Moon, or 'Mangetsu no Yoru made' in Japanese, is a supernatural shojo manga series created by the artist Matoh Sanami. It was serialized in the early 2000s and captures a distinctive aesthetic common to the era's fantasy-romance genre, characterized by delicate character designs and an atmospheric focus on folklore. The narrative revolves around the interplay between mundane life and mystical elements, a hallmark of Sanami's storytelling style during this period of her career.
The series is noted for its clean, expressive linework and the gentle, melancholic tone that defines the author’s artistic signature. Upon its release, it was received as a charming entry in the gothic-fantasy subgenre of shojo manga, appreciated by readers for its quiet emotional depth rather than high-octane action. The work stands as a representative example of how independent mangaka utilized traditional Japanese storytelling motifs to build intimate, character-driven worlds for their audience.
