Where it came from
Urara Meirochou, authored and illustrated by the artist known as Harikamo, began its serialization in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Miracle! magazine in 2014. The series is a quintessential entry in the slice-of-life genre, specifically focusing on the 'cute girls doing cute things' trope set against a fantasy backdrop inspired by Japanese folklore and fortune-telling traditions. It follows Chiya, a girl raised in the mountains who travels to the town of Meiro-cho to become a urara, a practitioner of divination.
Harikamo’s design work is characterized by soft, rounded character aesthetics and detailed depictions of traditional-inspired clothing, which effectively contrast the series' whimsical tone with the rigorous training involved in the protagonist’s path. Upon its release, the manga was noted for its comforting atmosphere and world-building, eventually earning a dedicated following that culminated in an anime adaptation produced by J.C.Staff in 2017. The work remains a recognized title within the Manga Time Kirara stable for its lighthearted exploration of mystical themes.
