Usagi Drop

Usagi Drop, or Bunny Drop, was serialized in the josei manga magazine Feel Young starting in 2005. Written and illustrated by Unita Yumi, the narrative follows Daikichi Kawachi, a thirty-year-old bachelor who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of his deceased grandfather's secret six-year-old daughter, Rin Kaga. The story emerged during a period when Japanese manga was increasingly exploring unconventional family structures, moving away from traditional tropes to focus on the nuanced emotional development of a fledgling, non-biological parent-child bond.

Unita Yumi’s artistic style is characterized by soft, clean lines and an understated aesthetic that emphasizes the domestic intimacy of the protagonists' daily lives. Upon its release, the series was widely praised for its grounded approach to child-rearing and the complexities of sacrifice, earning significant critical acclaim and eventually being adapted into both an anime series and a live-action film.
