Where it came from
Usogui, written and illustrated by Toshio Sako, was originally serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2006 to 2017. The series centers on Baku Madarame, a genius gambler who navigates high-stakes, life-or-death games overseen by an organization known as Kakeru. Known for its intricate plotting, psychological warfare, and brutal depictions of gambling, the series gained a dedicated cult following for its dense storytelling and Sako's evolving, sharp art style.
The 'fan colored' versions of Usogui exist as a digital phenomenon within the manga community. Because the original series was published in black and white, international fans and amateur digital artists have taken to colorizing individual chapters or volumes to enhance the readability of the complex action sequences and character expressions. These projects are labors of love produced by unofficial groups, intended to modernize the reading experience and draw new attention to a series that has historically lacked an official full-color digital release.
