Valkyrie Profile 2

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is a role-playing video game developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. As a prequel to the original Valkyrie Profile, the title was conceived to bridge the narrative gap preceding the first game, focusing on the character Silmeria and her conflict with the gods of Asgard. The development team sought to iterate on the distinct side-scrolling platforming and tactical combat mechanics that defined the series, while transitioning to full three-dimensional environments.

The game is widely recognized for its visual fidelity, utilizing a sophisticated graphics engine that pushed the capabilities of the PlayStation 2 hardware to its limit. The character designs, including the contributions of Hayashi Fumino, were integrated into the game's intricate art direction which draws heavily from Norse mythology. Upon release, the title received positive critical reception for its complex combat systems and high production values, though it was simultaneously noted for its steep learning curve and challenging gameplay structure.
