Where it came from
Violence & Peace represents a distinct entry in the experimental manga landscape of the late 20th century. Created by Kaze Shinobu, the work emerged during a period when seinen manga began to heavily incorporate abstract visual language and philosophical subtexts, moving away from traditional narrative structures to focus on the intersection of societal collapse and personal morality.
The design of the volume reflects the artist's preference for stark, high-contrast imagery, mirroring the thematic tension between its titular concepts. Shinobu utilized bold line work and unconventional panel layouts, a stylistic choice intended to disorient the reader and mirror the fragmented nature of the subject matter. Upon release, the series garnered attention primarily within avant-garde circles for its uncompromising visual intensity and refusal to provide easy resolutions to its internal conflicts.
